Sybil Dorothy Greenway-Welsh-Laredo

August 13th 1922 - January 25th 2013

Sybil Dorothy Greenway Welsh Laredo, 90 of Washington, DC went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday January 25th, 2013. Sybil was born to the late Beatrice and Willie Frank Greenway on August 13th, 1922 in Jackson County, Georgia. She graduated from McKinley Tech High School in 1939. She was a member of the "Golden Techites", the McKinley High alumni association and enjoyed attending their annual class reunions with her brother Sidney and any other family members she could convince to attend. This was of course so she could show us off to all her friends.

Sybil worked for many years at Pioneer / C& P Telephone Company as an operator and was very active in the "Telephone Pioneers of America" and the "CWA Retired Member's Club" following retirement. Sybil worked diligently for the rights of retired members to keep benefits for themselves and their spouses and was known to stand on a picket line or two to fight for those rights. In recent years she had relocated to Ashland, Oregon and was an active member of the Christian Church of Ashland. She never met a stranger and was a loyal friend to all who knew her. She had a great love for animals, which she shared and passed on to many a family member.

Sybil is survived by her sister Regina A. Tewes, four children: Kenneth R. Welsh, William L. Welsh, Robert C. Welsh, and Margaret E. Welsh. Two stepchildren Jerry and Delores, 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, also survive her. Her brother Sidney A. Greenway and sister Juanita M. Greenway White, her first husband Charles R. Welsh, and second husband Gerard F. Laredo predecease her. The family would especially like to thank her niece Joyce Lavelle who cared so lovingly for Sybil in her final months. A heartfelt thanks also goes out to all of her church family at Christian Church of Ashland.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 1st at Gasch's Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD. 20781.
