January 16, 1949 — December 15, 2024

College Park

Terry Lee Weaver (75), a resident of Waldorf, MD, passed away in the early morning of December 15, 2024. He was surrounded by his daughter, grandchildren and great grandson for hours prior.

Terry was born in Johnstown, PA on January 16, 1949. During his youth, he served as an altar boy at his Lutheran Church. He also played 1st chair trumpet for Greater Johnstown High School marching band. In addition, he would umpire for some of the AAA baseball games held in town.

After high school, Terry was in the Navy and sent to Vietnam. Upon his return, he met his wife, Jane (nee Elkin). The two wed in December 1970 and welcomed their daughter, Tawnya, in June 1971.

Terry worked in various jobs and industries. The hotel industry ultimately led him to moving his family to Maryland in June 1976.

When Terry wasn’t working, he involved himself in various activities. He became head coach for JV football (and assistant coach for the varsity team) at Parkdale High School in Riverdale, MD for 2 seasons (1989-1990). Although Terry primarily only knew the basics, he was able to help the team improve skills and was proud to be part of a team that went from a 1-9 record in 1988 to a team that went to regionals just 2 years later.

Terry was also a lifetime member of the College Park American Legion Post 217.

He also enjoyed his Masonic activities. Terry was a past member of York Lodge (later merged into Collington Lodge #230 in Bowie, MD). In addition to his blue lodge, he was a very active member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was a member of Prince George’s Forest #139 in Hyattsville, MD where he later became the Grand Tall Cedar in 1995. Once he was a past grand tall, he served the Supreme Forest as District Deputy for District 5.

Terry could sit and regale over many things—his time in the service, his coaching, stories from his travels with the Tall Cedars, etc and could keep anyone entertained for hours with his many (often humorous) stories.

Terry was predeceased by his wife, Jane (nee Elkin).

He is survived by his daughter, Tawnya; his granddaughter, Hannah; his grandson, Alex and his fiancée, Cristy Reagan; his grandson, David; his great grandson, Theo; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Ellis Berkebile; his nephew, Dennis Berkebile; his niece, Kathy Berkebile, and their familes.

A viewing for Terry will be held at Gasch’s Funeral Home, 4739 Baltimore Ave, Hyattsville, MD at 2pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025. A memorial will follow at 3pm.

A reception to honor Terry’s life will be immediately following at the family home in Waldorf, MD. Address and directions will be provided at the funeral home.
