In 1981 Tye graduated from Union High School in Rimersburg, PA. She was a member of the National Honor Society, recipient of the outstanding senior in history award, president of her senior class, participated in track and field, and a member of the quick quiz team. Mentoring girls and boys at the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard was her passion. Ensign Tye Mullikin volunteered as unit medical and supply officer and was the unit champion for community service at the Mooberry Division of the U.S. Navy Sea Cadets. The USNSCC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization established by Congress and sponsored by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, consisting of youth and adult volunteers who commit to an average of two training weekends each month.
