Wendy Osborne

July 21, 1940 — May 5, 2024

Greenbelt

Named by her granddaughters, "Toodie", Wendy Bennett Osborne died early on May 5th, 2024.  Born in Amityville, Long Island, she attended the Dwight School for Girls and Vassar College.

For the last 20 plus years, she made her home in Old Greenbelt, MD. She absolutely loved living here. She made herself a home that made her happy, surrounded by good people, greenery, and birds.  It is in Greenbelt that she made some of her closest friends, usually based on a shared love of books, food, gardening, or birding. Sitting on her porch with an assortment of nibbles, a book, crossword puzzle or a good friend, was her idea of heaven. She took pride in the hellebores that she coaxed and nurtured but could find beauty in the simplest flowers or plants.

Her passion for reading and words infused her entire life. An avid reader, she loved to talk about books and share the ones that she felt were particularly good.  She could solve the New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle and was rarely stumped.  She shared a love of wildflowers and birds with her sister, Betsy, and passed it on to her family, along with an enjoyment of the small details of life.

A lifelong thrift store enthusiast, she delighted in finding treasures and bargains and got just as excited for someone else’s good finds. She had a sneaky sense of humor; by turns wicked or goofy, subtle or crass.  She was a wonderful gift giver, thoughtful and attentive, with a sweet insight into the people she loved.

She is already tremendously missed by her children, Woody and Susan; her granddaughters, Lila and Lucy; her son-in-law, Mark; and her sister, Betsy.
