William A. "Bill" Rosenblatt, 90, a resident of the Forest Grove community in Oregon died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at The Beehive Assisted Living Facility in Forest Grove.
WILLIAM A. ROSENBLATT was born on March 5, 1923 in Greenville, Tennessee, the son of the late William A. Rosenblatt Sr., and Mary Mae (Click) Rosenblatt. At the age of 2, he moved with his family to Washington D.C. where he was raised and educated having been a graduate with the Eastern High School Class of 1941. Upon graduation he attended college for six months before he was drafted into the United States Army. He served one enlistment, serving in North Africa and Italy. He received his Honorable Discharge on December 2, 1945 in Fort George Meade, Maryland at the rank of Tech 4.
The day he got home from the service he met his future wife. He was united in marriage to Margaret E. Tovee on February 8, 1947 in the Lutheran Reformation Church in Washington, D.C. Following their marriage they made their home in Hyattsville, Maryland from 1948 - 1972 and then in Upper Marlboro, Maryland from 1972 - 2011.
William was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on June 4, 2008 after celebrating over sixty years of marriage together. On June 9, 2011, he became a resident at The Beehive Assisted Living Facility in Forest Grove, to be closer to his daughter, where he has resided since.
He worked as an Electrical Engineer for the Department of Veteran's Affairs for fifty-four years until his retirement in 1993. Following his retirement, he worked in the private sector for SME in Maryland for three years. He also volunteered at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland in the Transport Department for four years.
Among his special interests, William enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Jaquith, of Forest Grove, Oregon; his sister-in-law, June Solmoson, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and his cousin, Karen Pritchard and her husband Tom, of Sequim, Washington.
Also surviving are his two "grandchildren" Yorkshire Terriers, "Cowboy" and "Chloe" along with his cat "Comet" and many family members in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In addition to his beloved wife, Margaret, Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William, Sr. and Mae Rosenblatt.
A Life Celebration will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, Maryland. Inurnment in Forest Grove Cemetery in Oregon.
