Argene Stockhausen

Argene Stockhausen

Mar 28, 2021

On Sunday, March 28, 2021, Argene passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born “along the Mon” in Charleroi, PA during the Great Depression and raised on the sawthside of Pittsburgh.  She married Hubert Stockhausen in 1952, moved to Bethel Park, PA , and had three children, before moving to College Park, MD, in 1962, where she lived until her death.

Argene enjoyed a 40+ year career with the Government Printing Office (GPO) in Washington, DC and Laurel, where she made many friends and retired at the ripe young age of 85 !   Despite her small stature, Argene was quite the fighter, surviving two bouts of breast cancer and CoVID-19.

Argene enjoyed volunteer events and grape-stomping with the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus, being a home-room mother for her children at Holy Redeemer School, spending summers with her family at her vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, listening to Frank Sinatra and reading her favorite books.  Argene was an incredible seamstress, cook (her lasagna was legendary) and could make a long story even longer!

She is preceded in death by her parents Agnes and Silvio Pollacci, brothers Silvio (Chuck) and Norman, and her loving husband of 56 years, Hubert. Survivors include her sister Adele Zeiler of Pittsburgh; her children Hubert (Peggy) Stockhausen of Aspen Hill, Lisa (Brian) Gallagher of Bowie, and Eric (Julie) Stockhausen of Glenmoore, PA; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, two grandcats and three granddogs.

A Mass of Christian Burial is being planned for April 24th at Holy Redeemer Church in College Park.  Regrettably, due to the CoVID pandemic, it will be limited to immediate family and relatives.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 West 44th Street, Suite 609, New York, NY  10036; or Holy Redeemer School, 4902 Berwyn Rd, College Park, MD 20740.
