Irene Elizabeth Dennis Pruszenski became an angel in heaven on November 1, 2019. She was an exceptional mother who devoted her life to her beloved children: Anthony "Tony" Stanley Pruszenski, Jr., Keat Dennis Pruszenski, Dana Niles Pruszenski, Sherman Dean Pruszenski, Malea Anne (Erik) Maynard, and Amy Dee (Andrew Allen) Pruszenski. "Grandma" adored her grandchildren, Dana Anne Maynard and Alexander "Sasha" Keat Maynard, who, with their mother, provided daily loving care for her in the last year and a half of her life at CC Young nursing home in Dallas Texas. "Renie" was a 51 year resident of Adelphi, Maryland, after having moved up and down the east coast of the United States as a dedicated Navy wife to Anthony Stanley Pruszenski, Sr., who predeceased her on February 2, 2000. She was born to John and Anna (Ballinger) Dennis in Clayton, NJ and was tempered by growing up during the depression on a dairy farm. She was an inspiration, especially to her daughters, as a trail-blazer who found a way to attend nursing school at Hahneman University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA in an era when many women were not pursuing careers. She served as a nurse from 1940-1949. With a deep desire to have a family, she gave up her career to raise her family when she met and fell in love with "Ski", and married him on New Year's Day 1950, at the age of 28. She loved dogs and cats, especially enjoying her porch kitty "PK", and visiting foster cats smuggled into the nursing home by her grandchildren. During her long life, Renie was a skilled seamstress, cook, baker, bridge player, scrabble player, dancer, pianist, swimmer and tennis player. She was an avid reader, and switched to audiobooks when her vision failed. She was a Christian who trusted the Lord and was known to advise her children to "pray about it" when life's challenges arose. She was undefeatable, a strong woman, who lived her life with conviction setting a stellar example for her children, and all others. She was "Mom" to the end, waiting for her youngest daughter to return safely from her honeymoon before her peaceful departure from this world. She will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. At Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A. 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, MD 20781. Interment to follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd., Brentwood, MD 20722. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation, in the memory of Irene Pruszenski, to Texas Pawprints: https:// www.adoptapet.com /neighborhood-catladies/donate.
